Data: Dia 24 de maio às 15.00 horas no Anfiteatro 8 do Complexo FFUP/ICBAS
Orador: Prof. Doutor Frantisek Svec
(Professor no Departamento de Química Analítica da Faculdade de Farmácia, Universidade Karlova, República Checa).
Frantisek Svec received both degrees B.S. in chemistry and Ph.D. degree in polymer chemistry from the Institute of Chemical Technology, Prague (Czech Republic). In 1976 he joined the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences where he was promoted through the ranks to the Head of Department and the Scientific Secretary of the Institute. He accepted an offer and joined faculty at the Cornell University in 1992. Since 1997, he was appointed at the University of California, Berkeley. He was also affiliated with the Molecular Foundry of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
He is professor at the Beijing University of Chemical Technology and adjunct professor at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology in Korea. He recently accepted position at Charles University, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic.
Dr. Svec authored over 450 scientific publications that produced more than 25,000 citations and has an h-index of 92. He edited 2 books, and authored 75 patents. He is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Separation Science and Separation Science Plus, as well as member of editorial boards of a number of renowned journals. He served as President of CASSS (formerly California Separation Science Society) in 2003-2015.
He received numerous awards and distinctions for his pioneering work with monoliths including ACS award in Chromatography, A.J.P. Martin gold medal of the UK Chromatographic Society, CASSS award, and many others. F. Svec is best known for his research in the area of monoliths and their use in applications including liquid chromatography, electrochromatography, supports for solid phase chemistry, enzyme immobilization, and microfluidics.
Writing a good manuscript is an art. It begins with selection of the journal where the work should be published and with reading the Instruction for Authors.
The text must be written in such a way that the editor and the reviewers will immediately fall in love with it. It means, the authors have to apply the required format specific for the journal, and avoid any blatant typographical errors. Several real-life examples will be presented demonstrating how the individual parts of the manuscript including title, abstract, keywords, references, tables, and figures should and should-not look like.
Information will also be shared what happens with the manuscript once submitted. The role of the reviewers will be presented and recommendations what to do after receiving the reviews. Finally, suggestions concerning popularization of the work after acceptance will be given.
