''UAV networking & applications'' by Carlos Tavares Calafate

Abstract:
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), colloquially known as drones, are flying devices capable of scheduled flights or being controlled remotely. During the last years they have gained international relevance, being able to perform a wide range of tasks. For example, they can be used for field monitoring missions, delivery of packages in remote locations, or contribute to the creation of networks with tolerance to delays in smart cities. In addition, by adopting the appropriate algorithms, it is possible to control the flight of a group of drones acting as a swarm, or to create an air network infrastructure dynamically and on demand, among many other possibilities. This talk first introduces the main types of multi-rotor, its components and modes of operation, followed by an overview of the first applications these new flying devices are capable of offering.
