Suitable for English-speaking students
The main goal of this course is to endow students with the ability to:
1. analyze linear time invariant (LTI) systems in the time and frequencies domains;
2. operate with different representations of LTI systems;
3. analyze feedback systems, including feedback controllers;
4. synthesize basic feedback controllers based on performance and stability requirements;
5. analyze the behavior of nonlinear systems.
Learning outcomes and competences
At the end of the course the student should be able to integrate the acquired knowledge in the motivating context of applications in engineering, in the field of systems and control.
Linear time invariant systems. Systems described by differential equations. Transfer function, poles and zeros. Frequency analysis of systems. Bode plots. Time response of 1st and 2nd order systems. State space representation of systems. Controllability and observability.
Interconnection of systems. Feedback systems and block diagrams. Stability of feedback systems. Stability margins. Performance of feedback systems.
Feedback control. Proportional, integral and derivative controllers. Lead and lag compensation. Synthesis of feedback controllers. Pole placement and state feedback. State observers.
Nonlinear systems. Trajectories. Equilibrium points. Limit cyles.

Teaching methods and learning activities
Lectures will be used to present the course material, and to discuss illustrative examples. Students will have weekly assignments that will be discussed during practical classes. MATLAB based tools will be extensively used during classes. Evaluation will be based on the homework assignments, a midterm test, and a final exam.
Distributed evaluation with final exam
Calculation formula of final grade
F = 0.4*E + 0.3*MT + 0.3*P
F - final grade
E - Exam
MT - Mid term test
P - Project
