Objectives

This course aims to train students on planning and integrated management of network, system and services infrastructures.

Learning outcomes and competences

Learning results should provide students with competence in the procedures for managing a network, systems, and communication services infrastructure, in particular: - Specify, acquire, and evaluate requirements for infrastructure planning and design - Planning and designing the network and system infrastructure - Perform a rigorous choice of support equipments and systems based on specified requirements - Specify functional areas in management - Select adequate management platforms and tools.

Working method

Presencial

Program

Enterprise networks:requirements analysis, flow analysis, fundamental components and services; network topologies, virtual networks (VLAN, VPN), WAN/LAN integration, addressing and routing planning, quality of service and security. Systems architectures for enterprise networks: server clustering, load balancing models, high availability, scalability, and redundancy. Network management: functional areas; management layers; management operations and high-level functionalities; SNMP-based management architecture; management model fundamental components; MIBs, agents, managers, proxys, and probes; information models; web-based integrated management of networks and components (WBEM); management platform evaluation.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation with final exam

Assessment Components

Designation Weight (%)
Exame 50,00
Participação presencial 10,00
Trabalho laboratorial 40,00
Total: 100,00

Amount of time allocated to each course unit

Designation Time (hours)
Estudo autónomo 38,00
Frequência das aulas 42,00
Trabalho laboratorial 82,00
Total: 162,00

Eligibility for exams

Students have to do all the practical assignments.

Calculation formula of final grade

0,4D + 0,1P + 0,5E : D - distributed evaluation grade E - exam grade P - class participation. Approval requires a minimum of 50% score in the exam and in distributed evaluation.

Examinations or Special Assignments

Distributed evaluation is based mostly on lab projects. As such, the distributed evaluation component is required from all students regardless of their enrollment status.
A closed book exam.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Distributed evaluation is based mostly on lab projects. As such, the distributed evaluation component is required from all students regardless of their enrollment status.

Classification improvement

Classification improvement in the distributed evaluation component is done during the regular hours of the Course Unit's lab work.

Observations

Approval requires a minimum of 50% score in the exam and in distributed evaluation.
