OBJECTIVES: To understand the basics of the statistical methods and how to apply it in traffic control data.
SKILLS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES: To model a traffic problem and use the statistical techniques and simulation programs for the characterization of a traffic system, involving the definition of variables, selecting scenarios to be implemented and interpretation of results.
To design and carry out statistical studies in the area of road traffic control; Statistical analysis of traffic data; Stochastic modelling for road traffic networks; Delay analysis using queuing theory with and without server break; Modeling and simulation of traffic systems.
DEMONSTRATION OF THE SYLLABUS COHERENCE WITH THE CURRICULAR UNIT'S OBJECTIVES:
The application of statistical tools allows the achievement of the objectives, in particular as regards knowledge of theoretical foundations and applicability to problems of traffic control.
The teaching involves sessions with theoretical presentations and discussions. The student grading will be based on a report assignment and a written exam if necessary.
DEMONSTRATION OF THE COHERENCE BETWEEN THE TEACHING METHODOLOGIES AND THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
The report assignment and the discussion of the UC contents allows for an efficient learning experience at this education level

The conditions for obtaining frequency are expressed in Normas Gerais de Avaliação da FEUP (nonattendances not to exceed the limit number corresponding to 25% of the planned lectures).
The final grade (FG) are determined as follows: FG= 0.5 * Final Exam + 0.5 * Working Report (ratings of all the components of assessment are expressed in the range 0 to 20).
The working report assignment.
