Objectives

This course aims to develop students’ skills on urban drainage systems and waste and rain water treatment: planning, design, construction and exploration.
This course also aims to analyse and assess the above mentioned procedures in a global perspective, taking into account its integration on the urban water cycle and in the perspective of infrastructures management.

DEMONSTRATION OF THE SYLLABUS COHERENCE WITH THE CURRICULAR UNIT'S OBJECTIVES:
This curricular unit covers the topics on the drainage systems and treatment of waste and rain water in urban areas, essential to the preparation of civil engineering professionals highly qualified to deal with these issues in the planning, design, construction and operation of these systems.

Teaching methods and learning activities

- Detailed exposition of the concepts and specific terminologies of the diverse subjects that integrate the program of the course, completed with the resolution of practical problems of application.
- Importance of the conception of solutions. Calculation methodologies. Constructive aspects.

- Interconnection with similar subjects treated in some other courses of the degree.
- Study visits to equipment manufacturers or to interventions in execution or already in functioning

DEMONSTRATION OF THE COHERENCE BETWEEN THE TEACHING METHODOLOGIES AND THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
The used teaching methodologies allow to deal with main themes related to urban drainage systems, analysis, discussion and critical interpretation of results, emphasizing the potential of writing communication, problem formulation and certification.

Eligibility for exams

Achieving final classification requires compliance with attendance at the course unit, according to the MIEC assessment rules. It is considered that students meet the attendance requirements if, having been regularly enrolled, the number of absences of 25% for each of the classes’ types is not exceeded.

Classification improvement

IMPROVEMENT OF CLASSIFICATION According to the Evaluation Rules, the examen to improve classifaction, to be done when decided by the DEC, students who have already obtained approval, may repete any or both of the written tests.

PRIOR KNOWLEDGE: For proper frequency of the course the student must have successfully completed, in a generic way all Curricular Units in the area of hydraulics, including General Hydraulics 1 and 2 General Hydraulics, Hydrology and Water Resources and Hydraulic Urban and Environmental

RULES SPECIAL fOR MOBILITY STUDENTS: Proficiency in Portuguese and / or English; Frequency introductory graduate courses the scientific field in this course; Assessment by examination and / or work (s) defined in accordance with the student profile .
