Specific: understanding the diverse forms of energy (similarities and differences) as well as the basic laws of thermodynamics and their application systems
Expected outcomes: Students should know how to deal with the issue of energy, should be able to apply the fundamental laws of thermodynamics to systems and must be able to perform energy balances as well as calculate the energy efficiency of systems.
Introduction Fundamental concepts; Energy: Zero law of thermodynamics; Properties of a pure substance; First law of thermodynamics; Second law of thermodynamics Entropy. Third law of Thermodynamics
Lectures Practices: exposition of the subjects power point with typical problems.
Practicals: solving a collection of discipline problems

Please see the General Evaluation Rules of FEUP
The assessment of this course (uc) will be made as follows: - 1st Test, T1, required, on a date to be communicated to students; this test will represent 50% of the final grade and shall be approximately half of the program the uc; - 2nd test, T2, include the subjects after the T1; this test will also have a weight of 50% of the final grade - final examination, EF, the be performed simultaneously with the 2nd test. Any student may choose to perform this test as an alternative to 2nd test; the EF includes all subjects of the uc; - recourse test, ER, will be performed by students who have not obtained a minimum score (10) in both tests, T1 or T2 or EF, or further to improve the classification. This examination also includes all matter. Each test, EF and ER consist of a theoretical part to be held in the Moodle platform - American type-test (6 points, with a duration of 15 min.) and a practical part with realization of problems (14 points, with a duration of 2:00h). The final mark, CF, is obtained by: CF = (mark T1 + mark T2) / 2 or CF = mark of EF or CF = mark of ER
Evaluation only with a written exam on a date to be set by the course’s responsible.
On the pratical exams students can only use the book Termodinâmica para Engenharia and thermodynamic tables. Those that don´t have the recommended book can use 4 paper sheets (A4) with any kind of information. The theoretical part of the exam will be based on an American version and it will be carried out on Moodle
