This course main goals are:
- to make students acquainted with Intelligent Systems research work.
- to make acquaintence with different researchers in Intelligent Systems and, through them, with different research groups active on the presented research topics.
Students should show their knowledge on at least one of the presented themes, through writing an article on the State of the Art or a small project assignment. The assignments (article and/or demonstration) should illustrate systems which are characterized by some “intelligent” component related to its adaptation, autonomy, classification or inference capabilities. Main learning outcome of this course is to make students understand what can endow a computer system with a certain level of “intelligence”.
Themes to be presented:
- Presentation, Motivation, Aims and Program (3 hours)
- Principles of Modelling and Simulation: application to traffic and ecological systems (6 hours)
- Text mining- applications to the web and analysis of corporate repository in Portuguese (6 hours)
- Electronic Institutions: application to e-contracts and negotiation for virtual enterprises and electronic business (6 hours)
- Multi-Agent systems: applications on robotic soccer and missions with heterogeneous vehicles; Plans disruption management and operations of air transport (6 hours)
- Other MAS Applications: Social Networks, Production control (6 hours)
- Presentations
Handouts for the classes are provided by the speakers. Recent scientific papers suggested by keynote speakers.
Students have to attend 12 classes/seminars (33 hours). Students have to choose a theme and select one of the assigned works about it. An oral presentation has to be made in class and a report has to be written. Assignment (theoretical research included): 100h Interaction with researchers + research + final presentation: 35h
