Knowledge of performing arts, both historical and contemporary.

Development of technical and creative skills on "live arts" and interactivity.

Development of performance skills.

Learning outcomes and competences

After successfully finishing this class, the student will be able to participate in the conception, development and presentation of performances, successfully making use of the necessary technical resources.

Program

Multimedia in Performing Arts will revolve around three axis: history, technology and action.

The historical contents will address the relations between performing arts and vanguard movements, the emerging cultural paradigms and its surrounding ideologies.

The technological contents will address the relation between the performance act and the exponential development of media, both in terms of documentation and of processual tool.

The practical, action contents will invite the students to develop an experimental and empirical relation with the performing arts world.

Calculation formula of final grade

The evaluation will consist on the execution of two practical assignments of a performing nature:

40% - individual assignment, presented in class during the semester;

60% - group assignment, presented in class at the end of the semester;

Each assignment should be accompanied by a written report (1 to 3 pages), describing the concept, the goals and presenting a list of contextual references.

Classification improvement

Substantial improvement of the final assignment or presentation of another assignment previously approved by the professor.

Observations

Classes will be taught in English if there is foreign students or if it is deemed necessary (e.g. presentations given by foreign professors). Students can either present their assignments in Portuguese or in English.
