Objectives

To transmit theorectical and practical knowledge in the areas of conception, analysis and design of special concrete structures. Presentation of analysis and design models and use of appropriate specifications.

Learning outcomes and competences

Understand the behaviour of laminar reinforced concrete, precast concrete and prestressed concrete structures; know how to conceive and design.

Working method

Presencial

Program

Part 1 –Coneption and design models; Structures joints; Analysis and design models of reinforced concrete shells; Wind bracing structures; General dispositions in the design of prefabricated structures; Joints in prefabricated structures;
Parte 2 - Conception and design of real cases: Flat slab;  Rectangular/Circular reservoir; Composite slabs with prefabricated and prestressed panels; Transverse load distribution; Shear-resistant mechanisms; Evolutional construction process.

DEMONSTRATION OF THE SYLLABUS COHERENCE WITH THE CURRICULAR UNIT'S OBJECTIVES:

The curricular unit introduces the fundamental principles and the basis for the design of special concrete structures. Scientific and technical aspects of design, the techniques currently used and the specifications related to their application are discussed in an integrated way.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The teaching involves sessions with theoretical presentations and discussions. The student grading will be based on a report assignment and a written exam if necessary.

DEMONSTRATION OF THE COHERENCE BETWEEN THE TEACHING METHODOLOGIES AND THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:

The report assignment and the discussion of the UC contents allows for an efficient learning experience at this education level.
