Objectives

The aims of this curricular unit is to disseminate the most recent knowledge on construction durability, both  in terms of research activities and in terms of design methodologies.

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of the course the students are supposed to be able to include the durability concern in their future design choices and also to be able to identify new research areas in the domain of construction durability.

Design for Durability; 1.1 Building service life planning according to ISO 15686 standard; 1.2 Sources of information regarding durability. 1.3 Methodologies to assess materials and construction components service life; 1.3.1 Experimental approach 1.3.2 Statistical approach; 1.4 Integration of the theme of durability in the various stages of the design process; 2. Treatment of information about durability. Practical applications

DEMONSTRATION OF THE SYLLABUS COHERENCE WITH THE CURRICULAR UNIT'S OBJECTIVES:

The syllabus contents follow the most recent international developments in the domain of construction durability, both in terms of information and in terms of methodologies, being able to meet the curricular unit’s objectives

Mandatory literature

ISO 15686 Standard, Part 1 to Part 11.; .

Teaching methods and learning activities

The teaching is tutorial and includes the provision of studying elements and individual sessions for the presentation and discussion of UC contents. The student grading is based on a written exam.

DEMONSTRATION OF THE COHERENCE BETWEEN THE TEACHING METHODOLOGIES AND THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:

The individual sessions allow for an accompanied study and the discussion of future developments.
