Objectives

I. WORK PSYCHO-SOCIOLOGY

· Present the mainstream of work psycho-sociology and provide a thorough understanding of some key issues for the consideration of the human factor in the management of safety and health at work;

II. COMMUNICATION

· Raising awareness of the understanding of communication phenomena, with particular emphasis on interpersonal aspects;

III. TRAINING

· Identify training opportunities from the analysis and design of work processes;

· Develop training programs in occupational safety and health, articulated with the real needs of production systems and the experiences and skills of the trainees.

·The will to break with Taylorism: “human factor” and production process conception

·Main categories for work analysis in a contemporary approach: prescribed work/real work; pluridisciplinary approach and human error; restitution and validation; methodological and ethical vigilance; work beyond the company

II. COMMUNICATION

·General principles of communication in a traditional approach

·Multidisciplinarity and communication: several representations in risk assessment

·Double-way dialogue among workers and the intervention actors

III. TRAINING

·From social system conception to training conceptions

·“Gestures and postures” training: from a “prescriptive prevention” to a “comprehensive prevention”

·Ergonomic work analysis and preventors’ training

·Training assessment and transforming work: contributions and limitations of training; risk prevention actors inside and outside the company.

Teaching methods and learning activities

This curricular unit seeks to create favorable conditions for development of knowledge and skills, through the privileged resource to: concrete examples, case studies and short exercises, together with discussion and feedback about the proposals.

Eligibility for exams: 90 % to obtain the Vocational Training Certificate;

75% according to general evaluation rules of FEUP.

The proposed evaluation assumes a continuous character, based on two elements:

· Performance of theoretical-practical assignments in small groups, in class (later delivery of written report): 40%;

· Final exam (oral examination): 60%

For each evaluation element the minimum grade is 8.5 (out of 20).
