Objectives
To endow students with:
-general knowledge in textiles;
-theoretical and practical knowledge in fibres;
- knowledge in materials and conventional textile structures;
- knowledge in materials and technical and functional structures;
- knowledge in treatments and ecological aspects related to textiles;
- skills to develop new products based on fibres;
- teamwork, oral presentation and research skills;
- skills to analyse a life-cycle of a product.
Program
Theoretical and theoretical-practical program:
General notion of textile and textile processes
Study of textile fibres: classification, production, structure and properties of the main textile fibres- natural, artificial and synthetic
Basic characteristics of cords, fabric and textile;
Processes of preparation of textile materials: singeing, desizing, alkaline boiling, mercerization, chemical bleach, optical bleaching, cleaning, fulling, fixation and thermofixation
Cords, fabric and textile dyeing machines
Ecological aspects related to processes of textile batchwise
Assignments:
- Tests of fibre identification
- Fabric/textile analysis: qualitative and quantitative composition
- Tests of cotton fabric treatment: desizing, boiling and bleaching
- Research project about textile fibres for technical and functional use
