Objectives
Context and aims
- To endow students with fundamental concepts about the process of development of a company and its obligations towards the government;
- To develop and extend the process of analysis in order to carry out a business plan of a new technology-based company;
- To develop presentation techniques according to investor’s agenda.
At the end of this course unit, students should be capable of:
- creating a complete, concise and well founded business plan;
- knowing the legal procedures associated to the creation of a new company, as well as its main obligations towards the government;
- presenting an entrepreneurial project with a technological base to a potential investor or financing institutions.
Program
- Business plan: structure, connection to the process of strategic analysis and explanation;
- Creation of companies: legal context, procedures, taxation and other obligations towards the government;
- Investor’s agenda: risk capital, bank financing, government support funds, stock marker functioning and financing structure of a new technology- base company.
Teaching methods and learning activities
This course unit aims to endow students with practical skills which enable them to create a new company and raise financing and/or investment to start it. In that context is important for students to test their argumentative capacity during the semester, by analysing and presenting business plans to potential investors (fictitious or real) followed by reflection and identification of topics to be improved.
Concepts will be presented and explained in order to complement the practical component.

Calculation formula of final grade
- Assessment of two individual presentations to a panel of investors (real or fictitious) during the semester based on existing business plans (80% of the final grade).
- A written exam covering the formal process of creation of a company (80% of the final grade).
