Objectives

During the semester, the commercialisation team runs the search and structure of the necessary information to the commercialisation in the form of a business plan.
It finishes with the presentation of a business plan, products, financing and operational plan to investors.

Program

The methodology of this course unit is based on a functional, strategic and market opportunities analysis, to be developed in groups from two to five students.
During the semesters is carried out a validation of a business opportunity, the internal organisation of a company and investment plan.
As a result, the first integral version of a business plan will emerge.
In the first session, besides the presentation of the course unit, will be drawn the group of students (group A and B) which will be allocated in two groups of professors (both of them are constituted by two professors: José Miguel Oliveira e Miguel Barbosa; Manuel Aroso e Manuel Oliveira).
Groups are responsible for only one business plan and cannot be constituted by less than two students or more than five.
The composition of the groups and the choice of technology in which the business plan will be based, is students’ choice.
Up until the day before of the second session, groups have to inform the professors about their final formation and technology selected, at risk of being excluded of the continuous assessment component.

Examinations or Special Assignments

During the semester students have to carry out ten homework exercises with a scheduled delivery day/hour.
The assignments have to be done in group and have to be written in presentation form and cannot exceed more than three slides each. The assessment of each assignment comprises the discussion with the group, being composed by a presentation of ten minutes, followed by 15 minutes of discussion and it will exclusively be graded from 0 to 0.4 marks, according to the grading standards presented in the first session.
The quality of students’ oral participation will also be assessed by the professors and it will be grade from 0 to 0.4 marks, according to the grading standards presented in the first session.
The assessment of group assignments and individual oral participation is of professors’ responsibility.
Students who miss classes and latecomers (tolerance of 10 minutes) will earn a zero in the oral component of that session.
Students who miss or arrive late in more than three sessions will be excluded from the continuous assessment component.
The assessment of the above mentioned assignments in session 7 (not more than ten slides) and session 13 (not more than 20 slides) is of professors’ responsibility.
In the first session students will be familiar with the assessment elements of the mid-term and final assignment, which are scheduled for session 7 and 13.
In the first session will also be available slide templates which have to be followed in all presentations.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

The assessment at the special season will be only based on a final exam, which will combine the development and assessment, by a jury of four professors, of a business plan which shows students’ skills in the parameters referred in “Objectives, Skills and Learning Outcomes”.
Besides the development of business plan in a written form, it will always take place an oral exam.

Classification improvement

Students may improve their continuous assessment grades by attending a special exam during the season of exams.
It will be based on a final exam, which will combine the development and assessment, by a jury of four professors, of a business plan, in order to show students’ skills in the parameters referred in “Objectives, Skills and Learning Outcomes”.
Besides the development of a business plan in a written form, it will always take place an oral exam.
If the professor responsible for the course unit so decides it, students may improve their grades by developing a particular chapter of a business plan, in order to show their skills in the parameters referred in “Objectives, Skills and Learning Outcomes”. It will be assessed by a jury of four professors and besides the development of a business plan in a written form, it will always take place an oral exam.

Observations

Homework gives students the opportunity to practice their modelling and analysis skills introduced in this course unit. Homework also gives students feedback on their command of techniques and algorithms.
All the assignments must be original and performed by the group.
Ideas of other colleagues/groups may be used, but assignments must not be copied.
The assignments have to be sent to professors’ e-mails up until 24 hours before the session where they will be analysed.
The assignments handed in after the deadline will not be corrected.
