Objectives

This course aims to give a review on the fundamental concepts of chemistry.
By the end of the semester, students should be familiar with basic concepts on engineering sciences (chemistry) and should be able to solve simple tasks.

Program

Atoms and compounds
Atom, Atomic number and mass number, isotopes, atomic mass, elements, periodic table, mixtures and compounds, molecules, ionic compounds, mole and molar mass, elemental composition of a compound, empirical and molecular formula , compounds naming.

Chemical reactions
Balancing equations, precipitation recation, acid-base reactions, oxidation-reduction reactions (combination, decomposition, hidrogen, metal ad halogen displacement).

Stoichiometry
Amount of reactants and products, limiting reactants, reaction yield.

Concentration and dilution of solutions.
