Program

The enterprise and the management: types and classification of firms; the objectives of the firm; growth and ownership; levels of management; the role and the profile of the manager. Markets and products: notions of market and marketing; the role of marketing manager; marketing system; marketing strategy; growth opportunities; product life cycle; product mix and innovation. Corporate Strategy: types of strategies; business strategy analysis (environment, industry attractiveness, internal, competitive analysis); business strategy formulation (competitive, development, relational strategies); implementing a strategy. Functional policies: manufacturing strategies; logistics and physical distribution strategies. Organisational theory: classic theories; Taylor, Fayol Weber; structures in line and line-staff; types of departamentation; modern theories; Human Relations, Neo-classic, and Behavioural. Systemic approaches; Asian contributions; Project and matrix structures. Business administration: strategic management v.s operational management; organising, planning and controlling; information for management (Balanced Score Cards, Tableau de Bord, EIS); managing processes/activities vs. managing functions.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical classes. Pratical classes involving the discussions and presentation of case studies. Each case study is prepared and presented by a group of students (3 to 5 students), being discussed in the classroom with the coleagues, under professor supervision.
