Objectives

This course aims at developing management competencies, integrating a solid theoretical basis with casa study discussion and the development of a project. After completing this course, students should:
1. Understand the different functional areas of management and how they can be integrated in the firm's strategy.
2. Understand and explore how information technology can enable the firm's management and strategy.
3. Be able to apply managemment concepts, methods and tools.
4. Be able to coordinate multiple interdisciplinary tasks, integrating the different management functions, to attain shared business goals.
5. Be able to apply management methods and tools to analyze companie's management and identify improvements.
6. Be able to apply the management concept,s methods and tools to case discussion.
7. Be able to work in teams.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The teaching of this course is supported by the following components of complementary activities:

A1. LECTURES
Lectures will focus on the fundamental management concepts and tools, which provide the basis for the applied work.

A2. CASE STUDY ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION
The pratical classes will focus on case study analysis and dicussion, as well as small team works, with an emphasis on the application of the management concepts and tools.

A3. GROUP ASSIGNMENT: analysis of a company's use of technology in management. This group project consists in an analysis of the use of technology in a company's functional management areas and strategic management, identifying potential improvements.

Eligibility for exams

Students are required to complete a group assignment on the study of technoloy use in a company's strategic management. This group assigment will have two evaluation moments:
1. Oral presentation and intermediate report (10% of final grade)
2. Oral presentation and final report (30% of final grade)


Minimum classification of 37,5% in each of the evaluation components.

Calculation formula of final grade

final grade = 0,1* (intermediate presentation and report of group assignment) + 0,3* (final presentation and report of group assignment)+ 0,6* exam

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Working students who cannot attend all classes can fulfill the distributed component of the evaluation through the following procedures:
1.Individual assignment defined by Professors
2. Intermediary and final presentation of individual assignment on predfined dates.
3. The two presentations are mandatory.
4. Working students should contact the course professors to define the work assigment

Classification improvement

The classificatio improvement of the exam follows FEUP'S regulations.
The classification improvement of the distributed component can be done at the same time as the practical assignments in the following academic year.
