Objectives

- To identify the main characteristics and contingencies associated to organisation management;
- To know the roles of the manager and situate them in relation to the actual challenges and management practices;
- To develop teamwork skills;
- To define the main organisation models of Occupational Safety, Hygiene and Health;
- To know the regulation context of Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems.

- Management and the role of the manager. Concept of management. The functions and roles of the manager. Manager skills;
- Organisations theory: Classic model and Taylorism; Behavioural perspective, systems theory, contingency theory;
- Process of management: Planning, Organisation; Leadership and Control;
- Planning: definition of the mission and aims; Management by objective; Strategic management;
- Organisational structures: Factors which influence the design of organisational structures; Types of organisational structures;
- Motivation: The nature of motivation; Theory of motivation; Maslow’s pyramid and Herzberg’s hygiene factors; Cognitive theories of motivation;
- Leadership: Leadership skills. The role of the leader. Leadership theories.
- Team management: types of groups; Functioning of groups; Characteristics of work groups; Stages of development of groups; Conflict management;
- Control: Control and its role in organisations management; Development of systems of control management;
- Change management: The nature of change management; The process of change management; Key elements in change management in organisations;
- Organisation of occupational hygiene and health activities;
- Management systems of occupational safety, hygiene and health;
- Safety audits;
- Legislation and norms.
