Objectives

It intends to supply to the pupils basic information on the works of Civil Construction that relate with wood material. It is centered basically in the wooden applications for buildings in its diverse sources (Architecture, Structures and Finishings).

Program

Theoretical lessons (list of chapters)
1- Introduction to the Constructions in Wood;
2- The wood as material of construction;
3- Normalization in the domain of the wood and derivatives;
4- Mechanics characterization of different types of wood in laboratory;
5- Previous treatment of massive wood;
6- Structural and Architectural Solutions in wood;
7- Carpentry of clean.
Theoretical and theoretic-practical lessons – Chapter 8 (wooden structures sizing) Eurocódigo 5: Breef description and current situation. National Document of Application. Bases for sizing. States last limits. States use limits. Linkings.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The subjects are presented in accordance with methodologies that are as much complementary as possible: Theoretical lessons, practical lessons of laboratory, lessons and study visits. Chapters 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 are presented under the form of theoretical lessons. Chapter 4 is presented under the form of laboratory lessons. Chapter 8 (Wooden Structures Sizing)) is eminently theoretician-practical. Forms and methodologies of resolution of problems are presented and are decided problem-example in theorectical lessons. In practical lessons one considers other problems to the pupils for consolidation of knowledge. It is foreseen accomplishment of a study visit to a producer/seller of materials and components in the area of the wood better to illustrate the concepts presented in the first lessons. One second visit will be done to a plant of lameladas structures glue and one third to a company of carpentries and prefabricated houses in wood.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation with final exam

Assessment Components

Description Type Time (hours) Weight (%) End date
Subject Classes Participação presencial 52,00
Total: - 0,00

Eligibility for exams

For frequency attainment, the pupil must respect the maximum number of lacks admitted by the NGA and to get positive classification in the distributed evaluation.

Calculation formula of final grade

Evaluation is distributed with final examination.

Examinations or Special Assignments

An obligator practical work with the weight of 40% in the global note will be considered. It will have the duration of about nine weeks and implies a work load of esteem 20 hours.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

The evaluation of knowledge for the pupils excused of frequency, under the cover of the paragraph 3º of the Artº 4º of the NGA, will be made by one of two criteria: criterion adopted for ordinary pupils; accomplishment of final examination without distributed component of the evaluation.

Classification improvement

The final improvement of classification is gotten through a written test only. There is no possibility to improve the frequency classification.
