Objectives

Introduction to the finite element method and its application to the resolution of geotechnical problems of stress-strain and groundwater seepage.

Program

Brief revision of the displacement method and introduction to its programming, with special relevance being given to the economy and efficiency of the equation solution, as well as to the consideration of the foundation deformability in the soil-structure interaction process. Applications.
Solution of plane elastic problems by the finite element method. Introduction to the theory. Presentation of one f.e. program for analysis and modules for pre and post-processing. Applications.
Solution of groundwater seepage problems by the finite element method. Introduction to the theory. Presentation of one f.e. program. Applications.
Presentation of the f.e. programs SIGMA/W and SEEP/W. Applications.
