Objectives

To teach techniques of construction to enable the student to chose the most adequate construction process and equipment for the jobsite.

Program

Aggregates
 Aggregates production operation including blasting, crushing and conveying systems.
 Aggregates from by-products.
 Explosives.
 Crushing and screening mobile equipment.

Construction equipment

Concrete
 Mixing equipment; mixer performance; general requirements.
 Transporting.
 Placing including special process (e.g. preplaced aggregate concrete, underwater concreting, concreting with tremie pipes).
 Preparation of surfaces and reinforcement; joint preparation.
 Methods of consolidation: form vibrators, vibrating tables, surface vibrators, internal vibrators; slipforming; pressure against formwork.
 Revibration.
 Curing and protection: normal curing, accelerated curing; influence of the curing temperature on the strength and durability.
 Concrete temperature control: pre-cooling, post-cooling and insulating systems.
 Shotcrete: general equipment.
 White concrete: mixing, transporting and placing.

 Materials for formwork; special types; forms for site precasting; form release agents - influence on the concrete surface.
