Objectives

This discipline provides knowledge on the assessment of structural integrity of structures, in the possible presence of cracks.

Program

1. Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics. Stress analysis of cracks. Stress intensity factor K. Energy base4d methods. Strain energy release rate, G. Relationship betweeen K and G. Mecânica da Fractura Linear Elástica. Calculation of K using the finite element method. Plastic region in the crack tip. Plane stress and plane strain. Equivalent elastic crack.
Plane strain fracture toughness KIc. ASTM E399 standard.

2. Elasto plastic fracture mechanics. Dugdale model. Crack Opening Displacement - tests and standards. A Welding Institute Design Curve. J integral. Relationship COD - J.

3. Stable crack propagation: fatigue and stress corrosion. Paris law. Fatigue threshold. Relationships between SN tests(Wohler) and fatigue crack propagation tests.

4. Fracture of composite materials
Equivalent crack and crack saturation.

5. Failure analysis. CEGB R6 criterion.
