Resumo (PT): O presente artigo visa traçar uma análise diacrónica de um processo já centenário e indevidamente reduzido à sua expressão computorizada: a aprendizagem electrónica ou, em alternativa, do processo de ensino-aprendizagem apoiado por equipamentos, recursos e conteúdos de base electrónica. Iniciado com as emissões educativas apoiadas por tecnologias de radiodifusão, reforçado durante a II Guerra Mundial com a massificação do cinema educativo aplicado à formação do Exército e afirmando-se após a informatização da sociedade e a sua ligação através de redes telemáticas no final do século XX, o e-learning comporta uma dimensão histórica que urge analisar, nos seus pressupostos teóricos, tecnológicos e pedagógicos. Esta abordagem é tanto mais significativa porquanto nela se cruza a análise com o ensino à distância e a tecnologia educativa, outras soluções técnicas e organizacionais do trabalho escolar alinhadas com a história do e-learning.

Abstract (EN): This article aims to sketch a diachronic analysis of a centenary process that must not be reduced to its micro-computerized version: the e-learning. If its historical process was started by the emissions supported by radio-broadcasters, was reinforced during World War II due to the use of educational films applied to the Army training and was affirmed by the mass use of multimedia micro-computers connected to telematic networks in the late twentieth century, then it is relevant to know the evolution of the theoretical, technological and pedagogical means used in the e-learning process. This historical approach intends also to understand the role played by the the nature, mission and methods of the distance education and educational technology in the shaping process of the e-learning’s educational rationale
