Enrolment/Registration

General Information

  • Students have to enrol in/register for the FEUP programme they were admitted to.

  • In subsequent years, at the beginning of the academic year, they will have to register for courses within the established deadlines. Registering for a year/courses does not exempt students from choosing classes and timetables, and vice versa.

  • Students will only be able to register for courses of a given programme year once they register for any mandatory courses they have not completed in preceding years.

    NB: Students from the Integrated Master in Electrical and Computer Engineering should read this information about precedences.
  • Full-time students can register for a maximum of:

    • 60 ECTS (students who have been admitted via National Applications or via Special Applications for those 23 years or older and holders of technological specialization Diplomas);
    • 72 ECTS (all other students).

    Part-time students can register for courses up to a total of 37.5 ECTS (please see University of Porto's Regulations for Part-time Students). NB: Master's and Doctoral students registering exclusively for the Dissertation/Thesis (exceeding 37.5 ECTS) may also choose to enrol as part-time students (please see the rules).

    • Students who want to register as part-time students must expressly say so when they enrol/register at the beginning of the academic year.
    • University of Porto's Regulations for Part-time Students are not applicable to Advanced Studies, Specializations or Refresher Courses.

    Students may only change from full-time to part-time study, or vice versa, when they register for a year (please see University of Porto's Regulations for Part-time Students).

  • Tuition fees and insurance must be paid by the registration deadline (please see the information about Tuition Fees).

  • Students should see the information about Special Statuses to check if they can benefit from any of the statuses granted to certain groups of students (e.g., working students). Statuses requested during registration or in the following 30 days are valid for the whole year; those valid only for the spring semester must be requested up to 30 days before it begins.
  • Students who want to transfer credits, should see this information.

  • If a programme's curriculum enables students to take courses from other programmes, they should see this information about registering for individual courses.

  • Certificates for the following purposes can be obtained through the registration section of our online platform: scholarships, personal income tax returns, ADSE (healthcare for Portuguese civil servants), family allowance, medical assistance, military service, pensions, public transport passes, mobility process and residence permit for foreign students. Please print them out and take them to Academic Services to be authenticated, once you have paid your tuition fees. These certificates are free of charge, as noted in University of Porto's Table of Fees).

  • If there are any problems with your registration, you must produce the “Boletim de Inscrição” (“Registration Information Sheet”). We therefore strongly advise you to print it out after you register or change your registration.
