We follow the Regulation on periods of limitation of the University of Porto, in accordance with the provision of Law No. 37/2003.
Yes. To do so, you must submit a duly substantiated request addressed to the Dean of FEUP asking for a review of your situation.
The periods of limitation apply to bachelors and masters’ students.
No, the regulation on periods of limitation does not apply to doctoral programmes.
No, students who are at risk of being time-barred cannot register in the following academic year, whether as full-time or part-time students.
Yes. A student who has been time-barred and wants to return to FEUP must request readmission online within the established application deadlines. Readmissions mentioned in Article 2(b), and in Article 4(c) of the Regulation on periods of limitation of the University of Porto are always guaranteed and are not subject to places available.
If a student requests the cancellation of his/her registration during the academic year (including the requests that derive from the reasons provided for in item 3 of the Order No. GR.08/10/2010), the formula for calculating the periods of limitation shall be adjusted to the same principle set out in the Tuition Fees Regulation of the University of Porto, namely:
- Before 31st December = “0” registrations;
- After 31st December and before the beginning of the 2nd semester = 0.5 registrations;
- After the beginning of the 2nd semester = 1 registration.
If students cancel their enrolment, in order to resume their studies they will have to make an application to the cycle of studies via the Readmission regime. In this case, the calculation of the minimum number of credits to avoid being time-barred restarts.
However, in view of the Clarification of the Ministerial Order No. 181-D/2015, of 19th June – Cancellation of Enrolment/Registration, a minimum period of one year must elapse between the cancellation of the enrolment and the application for readmission.
The Regulation on periods of limitation of U.Porto only applies to the cycle of studies in which the student has been time-barred. A student who is registered in two cycles of studies can be time-barred in one of them and keep attending the other one.
No, students who benefit from the student worker status are not subject to periods of limitation.
In accordance with the provisions of Law No. 37/2003, of 22nd August, a student who has been time-barred cannot enrol or register in that cycle of studies if he/she does not meet the applicable criteria, and is prevented from applying to that or to any other cycle of studies for the following two semesters.
No, since you are prevented from registering in the cycle of studies, no tuition fees will be due.
In this situation, the Regulation concerning the change of course, transfer and readmission regimes in higher education applies, meaning:
Yes. Students can register in single curricular units (Regulation on the attendance of single curricular units of the courses and cycles of studies of the University of Porto) in any cycle of studies, specialization courses and advanced studies courses or generic continuing training courses of the University of Porto which are available and if there are specific places for that purpose.
The registration procedure is available on the Enrolment/Registration page.
In this situation, and in accordance with the provisions of Article 46(A) of Decree-Law No. 74/2006, amended by Decree-Law No. 107/2008, the curricular units students register for, which are subject to evaluation, and at which they obtain a passing grade:
