FEUP Reading Club: Vamos a Livros || Artificial Intelligence: Literary Decline?

14 May at 1.00 pm in Room I-105.

Artificial intelligence no longer belongs solely to the future — it is part of our present and is transforming the way we think, create and learn. In this book exhibition, we invite everyone to explore different perspectives on AI: from accessible explanations to ethical reflections and innovative visions. Between the pages, algorithms find their voice, ideas take shape and knowledge becomes a bridge between humans and machines. Come and discover how AI is literally writing the next chapters of our history.

Come to Level 0 of the library and enjoy the selection of books we have prepared for you.

Join the Reading Club on 14 May at 1.00 pm in Room I-105.

For this session, we have invited Arlindo Oliveira, President of INESC. The session will be moderated by Gabriel David, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at FEUP.

Arlindo Oliveira is the author of *Generative Artificial Intelligence* and will lead this discussion on our future in the Age of AI.

Synopsis of the book:

In the field of artificial intelligence, the future is full of unknowns. One of them, perhaps the most important, is whether machines will ever be capable of being intelligent, of thinking and even of feeling, just like human beings. The answers today lie in generative artificial intelligence, a technology resulting from many decades of research in the field of machine learning and the focus of intense attention since the launch of ChatGPT in the final months of 2022.

This essay places this technology within the broader context of artificial intelligence, provides an accessible description of the underlying methodologies and algorithms, lists some of its applications, and analyses potential future developments and risks.

Will machines one day have rights and obligations just like us?

It is worth thinking about this.
