Description: | The Doctoral Program in Digital Media is a joint program offered by the University of Porto and the New University of Lisbon, with the support of the University of Texas at Austin. It is a multidisciplinary program organized in four areas of specialization: (1) audiovisual and interactive content creation, (2) Technology, (3) Industry, public and Markets. At UP the course will be based in the Faculty of Engineering, actively involving the Faculties of Humanities, Fine Arts, Economics and Sciences. |
1. Develop a new pre research project in the field of Digital media, with a starting issue, goals, brief review of State-of-the-art and methodological level
2. Consult bibliographical databases.
3. Articulate in-depth reviews of the State of the art in the field of research with the emergence of relevant and innovative scientific issues
- To analyze different epistemologies in the construction of the communication theory.
- To communication theories in a diachronic perspective and interdisciplinary.
- To develop a comprehensive rationale that allows an application of theories and concepts to hypothetical situations substantive ground.
- To place the new media in the context of the communication theories.
The main objective of this course is to give an insight into the digital culture, addressing the history of electronic music and Multimedia and focus on the multimedia trends.
The Digital Culture curriculum aims to provide students with a broad overview on the impact of digital technology on society and culture, providing mechanisms to analise and reflect on how to establish a critical thinking.
The module on the History of Electronic Music and Multimedia seeks to give an insight into how technological developments in this area forged a new audio culture. Thus it also seeks to promote a critical thinking on the cultural impact of the technological advabces in the field of multimedia.
Finally the module on the Multimedia trendas aims to promote critical thinking about how some of the emerging topics in Multimedia may evolve in the future.
