This course is designed to provide students with the basic skills required for successful computer use and to prepare them to readily work with office software tools: word processing, spreadsheets and presentation tools.

The objectives of this course are to provide students with knowledge and skills on processes, techniques and requirements engineering models, including analysis tools in the context of organizational information systems analysis. It is intended that given a situation of potential introduction or development of an information system in an organization, the student is able to participate in and / or conduct an analysis process that leads to the definition of technical and organizational requirements of this system.
The "Information Retrieval" unit assumes as its context the existence of large collections of information and the need for methods and tools for information retrieval on large heterogeneous collections.
1. Make the students feel the difference between structured and unstructured information and the difference between documents having associated descriptions or not.
2. Make the students familiar with the main concepts in textual information retrieval and their application in retrieval tools.
3. Use well-established methods in information retrieval to evaluate retrieval tools.
The goal of the course is to get the students familiar with databases both as components of information systems to be specified or managed and as information sources to be explored, enabling them to participate on the definition of an organizational data storage strategy.
This course focuses on the application of analytical methods to take better decisions and provides students with tools for modelling and optimization that will be very useful in various roles in several types of organizations (industry and services).
The main objective of this course is to convey students a global vision about the principles and techniques used in rational decision-making processes with multiple criteria and risk and uncertainty situations, stressing in particular the role of quantitative methods and qualitative issues.
