Mission:	Reaching: major mission - ensure the supply of geo-environmental and mining engineers formation. Subsidiary missions: to participate in the formation of environmental engineers and in the formation of masters of Engineering Occupational Safety and Hygiene. Investigation and university extension services - major mission: in the area of geo-environmental and mining engineering; subsidiary mission: Engineering Occupational Safety and Hygiene, connected to the extracting sector.
Description:	The main goal of the Department of Mining Engineering is to assure the Undergraduate Degree in Mining Engineering, the Master’s Degree in Technology and Mineral Resources Management and the Geoenvironmental area of the Master’s Degree in Environment Engineering. This department has several laboratories and also a Museum of Mineral Deposits. The DEM also offers infrastructures for research in cooperation with various departments of FEUP and of other universities and institutes of higher education. As far as the provision of services to outside companies is concerned, the DEM has protocols with extractive sector companies and provides research support for project offices, mines, quarries, construction companies, cement companies, local governments… R&D Units CIGAR - Resources and Geo-Environment Research Center
