Objectives

The purpose of the Tecnologias das Construções curricular unit is to introduce this theme in a structured way to the students, associating the materials, the technologies and the processes of construction of the most relevant components of the buildings, closely linked to the understanding of the phenomena, physical laws and behaviour. For this purpose, examples and concrete cases are used whenever possible to facilitate assimilation of the material.

DEMONSTRATION OF THE SYLLABUS COHERENCE WITH THE CURRICULAR UNIT'S OBJECTIVES:


The curricular content of the Technology of Construction course is part of the Project, Work and Quality Assurance activities in Buildings and Civil Engineering works. It aims to highlight the importance and know the components and elements of a building complemented with the constructive processes of execution of these same components of execution.

Teaching methods and learning activities

This course will be based on the presentation of construction technologies of construction elements that constitute buildings. Design and selection of construction solutions based on a method. Application of knowledge in real situations.

DEMONSTRATION OF THE COHERENCE BETWEEN THE TEACHING METHODOLOGIES AND THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
The used teaching methodologies allow to deal with main themes related to the technologies of construction, analysis, discussion and critical interpretation of results, emphasizing the potential of writing communication, problem formulation and certification.

Eligibility for exams

Achieving final classification requires compliance with attendance at the course unit, according to the MIEC assessment rules. It is considered that students meet the attendance requirements if, having been regularly enrolled, the number of absences of 25% for each of the classes’ types is not exceeded.

Calculation formula of final grade

The final grade is assigned based on a distributed evaluation, which consists of one test to be held during the class period, on assignments to be completed during the recitations, and a final exam. The distributed assessment is optional.

The final grade, CF, results from the following calculation formula:

CF = max {CT; EF}

where,

CT = PA / PA + 2 x CAD1 / 2 x PF x + EF CAD2

CAD1 - classification of test 1 to be held during a lecture;
CAD2 -
classification of the assignments produced during the recitations;
EF - classification of the final exam.

Classifications CAD1, CAD2 and EF are associated the following weights:

PA1 = (15%)
PA2 = (10%)
PF = (75%)

NOTE 1: The tests, associated with ratings and CAD2 CAD1, are optional. If the student does not perform any of these tests, the respective weights are added to PF.

NOTE 2: All students enrolled in the course are classified according to this method.

NOTE 3: Students who have attended the course in the previous academic year do not maintain the classification of distributed component evaluation of the previous year.

NOTE 4: Minimum classification of the EF component: 7.5 points out of 20.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

The same criteria for ordinary students are applied.

Classification improvement

Only the final exam grade can be improved, keeping the formula for calculating the final grade.

Observations

Working time estimated out of class: 2 hours/week
