To understand and identify the mechanisms and modes of heat transfer (Diffusion, convection and radiation) and of the corresponding governing equations.
To provide the means to analyse qualitatively and quantitatively thermal systems in what concerns heat transfer phenomena. The mainstay is the comprehension of the phenomena, its physical models and the capability to solve them using advanced mathematical techniques.
To understand the mechanisms and modes of heat transfer (Diffusion, convection and radiation) and the corresponding governing equations.
To provide the means to analyse qualitatively and quantitatively thermal systems in what concerns heat transfer phenomena. The course will also provide some notions of heat exchangers and mass transfer.
Mathematics Analysis and Algebra, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Numerical Analysis
Good domain of differential equations and the numerical solution of nonlinear algebraic equations
Programa 1- Introduction to the mechanisms of heat transfer; 2- Conduction (Euler's equation, steay conduction, fins, one-dimensional unsteady conduction, two-dimensional conduction) 3- Convection (Energy equation, Internal and external Flows; Free convection. Convectin with phase change); 4- Heat transfer by Radiation.
Three lectures of 1.5h/ week for the presentation of theory and solution of typical problems.

Two moodle assignements each with a weight of 15% plus final exam with weight of 70%. The access to the final exam requires a minimum mark of 6/20 on the ensemble of the two moodle assignements.
Resit exam is for the whole subject matter and is also composed of a moodle test (30% weigth) and a written tes (70% weight), where the access to the written test requires a mark of 6/20 in the corresponding moodle test.
All exams/tests are exclusively in portuguese, i.e., no english version (or in any other language) are provided.
