Objectives

Students of the 5th year that have chosen Hydraulics as main topic can possess a set of kenowledge on Fluvial Works and Hydroplants tha was not possible to get in the previous subjects on Hydraulics. The Contents of the subject show quite well the kind of knowledge transmited to the students, that can enable them to integrate Design, Building and Surveying Teams for Hydraulic Works and Hydroplants.

Program

Overall Definitions
Multipurpose Hydroplants
Hydroelectric Plants
Water Supply Hydroplants
River Diversion Analysis
Dams (Types and Preliminary Calculations)
Hydraulic Design of Some Plant Elements (1st pant): Dam Foundation, Spillways (conventional and non conventional), Energy Dissipation devices, Bank and River Bed Protection, Mobile Dams.

Teaching methods and learning activities

At the beginning of the year contents of the subject are presented to the students; due to de great variety of the topics it is important to get a good coordination between theorectical classes and more practical ones. The Professors Team owns a deep theorectical professional and practical experiences; Theorectical Classes are complemented with the solving of practical questions, mainly real problems that have hapened, in the past, on Hydraulic Works.
Quite a rich professional living experience is transmited in the Classes to the students, which is quite important. Also very important is the set of technical visits either to already built to plants or to others still in construction.
