Transportation is and area of knowledge with proper specificities and the decisions have implications in other areas of the engineering like land use, energy consumption, deesign of infrastructures, etc. Investment decisions and transport economy also have specificities.
Increase the general knowledge of the students in the field of transportation. The subjects covered are related to air transport, maritime, rail and road at diferent scales, from urban to international.
Knowledge: the information will be transmited with reference to 3 sides: historical because things have changed in the recent past, tecnological solutions and ojjectives and the formas of organization of the transport sector.

Evaluation:
Historical evolution, in terms of technology and organization, of the different transport modes (air, maritime, road and rail). Current technological solutions and organization of markets for different modes of transport. Regulatory and funding models. General concepts of transport economics and evaluation of major transportation projects. In practical terms issues related to urban traffic will be analyzed such as road congestion, urban tolls, public transports, at the airspace level issues such as the role of airports, management and development forms, the air transport market, airlines (low cost and legacy), at the sea level issues related to the organization of the ports and the sea motorways and at the rail level regulatory and technological issues.
DEMONSTRATION OF THE SYLLABUS COHERENCE WITH THE CURRICULAR UNIT'S OBJECTIVES: Transport is an area of knowledge with specific characteristics and decisions at this level affect other areas of engineering such as the forms of land occupation, the energy solutions, design infrastructure, etc. Decisions on investment and economic practices also have their own fields of expertise.
Lectures with presentation of the subjects. Theoretical-practical classes for discussion on specific topics related to theoretical subjects. Tutorials for monitoring of student work. Work themes for each student are different and complementary. In the discussion and final presentation all students are involved.
Field visits to different modes of transport: visit the Museum of Electric Car, Porto Airport, Central Command of STCP and Porto City Hall, Port of Leixões. In these study visits, students have the opportunity to contact professionals and discuss issues previously learned in classes.
DEMONSTRATION OF THE COHERENCE BETWEEN THE TEACHING METHODOLOGIES AND THE LEARNING OUTCOMES: The student should be able to formalize a process of investment decision on a transportation project. The student should be able to understand the scope of the review process in this field of knowledge. The student should be able to formulate a problem of transport. The student should be able to generate concrete ideas, evaluate the outcome of decisions and propose solutions for issues of mobility of people and movement of goods.

“Achieving final classification requires compliance with attendance at the course unit. It is considered that students meet the attendance requirements if, having been regularly enrolled, the number of absences of 25% for each of the classes’ types is not exceeded. The following cases are exempted from the attendance requirements: i) cases prescribed by law, including student workers; ii) students who were admitted to exams in the previous academic year.”
Examination 40%. Works 60%.
