Objectives
The main objective of the course is to introduce the bases of road pavement technology and design.
Program
General concepts about road pavements: types, layers and foundation. Pavement materials: types, characteristics, quality control and mixture design. Generalities about layers and their composition. Flexible, composite and rigid pavements. Pavement catalogues. Structural behaviour of road pavements and flexible pavement design using current mechanistic approaches. Rehabilitation layer design for flexible pavements. Some simple procedures for rigid pavement design.

Teaching methods and learning activities
Two thirds of the course are dedicated to pavement technology and design principles. The remainder is dedicated to the resolution of mandatory design application problems.

Calculation formula of final grade
Final exam (13/20) and two design application problems (7/20).
Examinations or Special Assignments
Two design application problems are dedicated to new pavement structure design and to pavement rehabilitation design. The final exam focusses on pavement technology.
