Objectives

The main objective of the course is to introduce the bases of road pavement technology and design.

Program

General concepts about road pavements: types, layers and foundation. Pavement materials: types, characteristics, quality control and mixture design. Generalities about layers and their composition. Flexible, composite and rigid pavements. Pavement catalogues. Structural behaviour of road pavements and flexible pavement design using current mechanistic approaches. Rehabilitation layer design for flexible pavements. Some simple procedures for rigid pavement design.
