19 December | 9:30 PM | FEUP Auditorium

The FEUP Jazz Group was created in 2008 by the Cultural Board as a complementary cultural activity offered by the faculty to the entire community, initially under the name FEUP Music Workshop. From the outset, the group was divided into two sections – vocal and instrumental – the first directed by Fátima Serro and the second by Paulo Gomes. Operating either independently and/or in coordination, the groups have already recorded two CDs (2013 and 2019), featuring guest soloists. Both ensembles work regularly, with weekly rehearsals at FEUP, and are made up of students, alumni and lecturers from across the University of Porto.

On stage, in this concert on 19 December, we will be treated to the energy of traditional jazz rhythms, particularly swing, which invariably transports us to the early decades of the twentieth century. The FEUP Jazz Group will present captivating melodies performed by the winds, paired with the driving force of a pulsating rhythm section that will leave no one indifferent. Meanwhile, the FEUP Vocal Group will showcase the intricate harmonic and rhythmic work of voices in ensemble, in a sonic and linguistic interplay that never fails to surprise, thanks to the skilful interpretation of the arrangements.

It promises to be a delightful musical evening, full of good spirits and lightness, under the guidance of two of Porto’s most prominent jazz musicians – Fátima Serro and Paulo Gomes. These key figures in the city’s musical life and education are a source of inspiration for several generations of amateur musicians who gather here to share the excellent results of their weekly rehearsals at FEUP.

Free admission.
