Ranking Criteria

Applicants will be ranked according to their academic path grade, or CPA, (on a scale from 0 to 200) weighing the entrance examinations required at the time of the application to access the cycle of studies they are applying for, as well as any credit transfer regarding curricular units completed in the cycle of studies of origin.

Calculation of the Academic Path Grade (CPA)
:

A - Grade “equivalent” to the higher education access grade (on a scale from 0 to 200), taking into consideration the specific examinations currently required for the cycle of studies they are applying for;

C12 – Grade of the 10th/12th school years, or final grade obtained in foreign secondary education legally equivalent to Portuguese secondary education (note1);

CE1 – Grade of the 1st entrance examination (note2);

CE2 - Grade of the 2nd entrance examination (note2);

B - Average grade of the curricular units that are relevant to the cycle of studies the student is applying for (curricular units regarding which credits will be transferred);

Ni - Number of ECTS credits previously accumulated (number of ECTS credits that will be transferred to the student) in areas of the cycle of studies the student is applying for;

Ci - Grade of each curricular unit regarding which credits will be transferred;

TOT - Total number of ECTS credits of the cycle of studies the student is applying for.

Therefore, the university path has a weight proportional to the number of ECTS previously accumulated in areas of the cycle of studies the student is applying for (up to a maximum of 50%), with the remaining weight being attributed to the pre-university path.

Note 1:
If applicants do not submit a supporting document attesting the completion of secondary education, or if the said document does not include the corresponding final grade, item C12 will have the value of C12=100 (out of 200).

Note 2:
- For applicants who have been admitted by means of the special examinations designed to assess the ability to attend higher education of those over 23 years old, in CE1 and CE2 the grades obtained in the examinations taken which correspond to the entrance examinations will be used. If the applicant has only taken the Mathematics examination (mandatory), this grade will be used for CE1 and the value of 95 (out of 200) will be used in CE2.

- For international students who are applying with the ENEM examinations, for CE1 and CE2 the grades obtained (converted to a scale from 0 to 200) in Mathematics and its Technologies (MT) and in Natural Sciences and their Technologies (CNT) will be used.

- For international students who are applying for the Master in Civil Engineering (MIEC) with the Gao Kao or Lian Kao examinations, for CE1 and CE2 the grades obtained (converted to a scale from 0 to 200) in the components Mathematics and Physics or Mathematics and Comprehensive Sciences Examination will be used.

Note 3:
For the Master in Engineering and Industrial Management (MIEGI), the CPA calculation for applicants ranked in the regime Change of institution/course pairing - 1st curricular year will be solely based on the grade “equivalent” to the higher education access grade (on a scale from 0 to 200), taking into consideration the specific examinations currently required for the cycle of studies the student is applying for (A), which corresponds to awarding a nil value to the term for all applicants ranked in this regime.

Documents Required

The following documents must be submitted:

1. ID document (Citizen Card / ID Card /Passport) or declaration containing the identification data (mandatory);

2. Supporting document attesting completion of secondary education, containing the grade of the 10th/12th school year (Higher education application history or ENES file) (1). For foreign qualifications, a certificate of equivalence to Portuguese secondary education, including the final average grade, issued by a national competent authority (2) (mandatory);

3. Supporting document with the results of the Portuguese national examinations that correspond to the entrance examinations required for the cycle of studies (Higher education application history or ENES file), or supporting document with the results of foreign examinations legally equivalent to Portuguese entrance examinations through the application of Article 20-A of Decree-Law No. 296-A/98, of 25th September,  in its current version (3) (mandatory);

Students who have been admitted to higher education by means of the special examinations designed to assess the ability to attend higher education of those over 23 years old, if they do not have Portuguese national examinations that correspond to the entrance examinations set out for the cycle of studies, must present examinations taken under Decree-Law No. 64/2006, of 21st March, that correspond to the entrance examinations set out for the cycle of studies, provided they have obtained the minimum grade required (see table 1 and note 2 of the ranking criteria).

International students, if they do not have Portuguese national examinations that correspond to the entrance examinations set out for the cycle of studies (see table 1), must present supporting documentation attesting they have the specific academic qualifications required for admission to the cycle of studies via the admission regime Special Applications - International Students.

4. Certificate of the higher education institution listing the curricular units in which you got a passing grade, indicating the regime (semester/year) and the number of credit units/ECTS (4) (Obs: The curricular units indicated in this document must be considered in the credit transfer process.) (mandatory);

5. Declaration issued by a competent entity attesting that the cycle of studies you have been registered in is set out as higher education in the legislation of the corresponding country (5);

6. Certificate/declaration issued by the last higher education institution you registered in, stating that you are not time-barred in the academic year for which the application is being submitted. If you cannot obtain this certificate/declaration, you must issue a declaration of honour to that effect, however the enrolment will be conditional until you present the certificate (mandatory);

7. Declaration of honour as you will not complete the cycle of studies before the end of the applications deadline (mandatory);

8. Photo (optional).

Notes:
(1) If applicants have been admitted via the regimes Over 23 Years Old, Technological Specialization Courses (CET) or Holders of a Vocational Senior Technician (TeSP) Certificate, if they do not have a supporting document attesting the completion of secondary education, they must submit a certificate attesting they have been admitted to higher education via one of these regimes.

(2) For more information regarding the procedure of equivalence to Portuguese secondary education, see http://www.dge.mec.pt/equivalencias-estrangeiras
If applicants do not submit a supporting document attesting the completion of secondary education, or if the said document does not include the corresponding final grade, item C12 will have the value of C12=100 (out of 200).

(3) Documents, including in digital format, must be authenticated by consular offices or embassies of Portugal located in the country where the qualification was obtained or hold the Hague Apostille (for countries that acceded to the Hague Convention). The same applies to the translations (mandatory) of documents whose original language is not Portuguese, Spanish, French or English.
If the authentication with the Hague Apostille is done on a certified copy of the original document, during this process the signature(s) that appear on the original document must be certified so that the capacity of the signatory(ies) of the original document is verified and ensured.
Obs.: Documents can be submitted unauthenticated in the application stage. However, admitted applicants who have any pending document in their application process (e.g. unauthenticated certificates) will only be able to enrol after they deliver/send the said document.

(4) UP students are only required to scan and attach the information included in their “Percurso Académico” (Academic Path);
- If you have not obtained a passing grade in any curricular units, you must present a higher education registration certificate;
- For foreign qualifications, the certificate of the higher education institution listing the curricular units (transcript) must be authenticated in accordance with the information in note (3) above;
- If you do not intend to request recognition/credit transfer, thereby being placed in the 1st year, you must issue and present a declaration to that effect, along with the certificate listing the curricular units completed. If you do not present the said declaration, that implies that you intend to request credit transfer regarding the curricular units completed. Therefore, if you are placed and have not requested credit transfer during the application process, you will necessarily have to do so upon enrolment.
If, when applying, students do not declare a curricular unit completed before their application to FEUP and do not request the corresponding credit transfer, they will not be able to request credit transfer at any later time.

(5) One of the following declarations may be presented:
- Declaration issued by the competent entity of the country where the qualification was obtained recognising the institution as part of its higher education system;
or
- Declaration issued by DGES (Directorate-General of Higher Education) attesting the level of the foreign training for the purposes of equivalence/recognition, in accordance with the procedure set out at https://www.dges.gov.pt/pt/pagina/declaracoes-naric
