Abstract (EN): A staged approach of fixed bed sorption operations is presented. It is starts with a simple model (nonlinear equilibrium plus film mass transfer resistance) and then considers a second resistance to mass transfer inside the particle. Some algorithms for the integration of systems of stiff ODEs are discussed; we concluded that for the film controlled process the GEARB method is the best of the availabe programs. When considering internal diffusion a PDE will be included and a modified Crank-Nicholson method is used for the integration of the resulting system. Convergence tests were made and some results are presented. © 1979.
