Objectives

The curricular unit is organized in two parts with the objective of providing the student with the understanding of Business Intelligence as a technological apparatus of applications for the collection, storage and analysis of information, but also on the sharing of information and its use for effect of controlling the operations and execution of the strategy.

This ensures that the student will have a knowledge of management control systems in terms of their design, operation and use, but also that they know information systems from the perspective of information technologies and their architecture and governance.

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of the course, students will be familiarized with the information technologies and applications most frequently used in a business context to measure and control the performance of organizations. Students will be able to understand the architecture of a business information system and design and implement a management control system.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The course combines lectures with case studies of information management and management control. An important part of the work of the curricular unit extends to the Project 2 curricular unit, where students will have the opportunity to integrate Business Intelligence knowledge with those acquired in other curricular units, namely strategy and organizational theory.

Eligibility for exams

Class participation (includes group assignments; the assignments consist of answering questions about case studies, carried out and delivered in the classroom) – 30%; Individual work – 70%. The individual assessment consists of two parts.The first part is to answer the questions on a case study; the second part is a short literature review.

Calculation formula of final grade

The final rating is the weighted average of the two components. The individual work is subject to a minimum grade of 7 values.

The improvement of the classification will take place during the appeal period and is based on the regime of "Assessment by final exam".

Classification improvement

It will take place under the terms of the General Evaluation Regulation.

Observations

In the distributed assessment regime without a final exam, students with student-worker status are exempt from the assessment component "Participation in classroom". The final classification is the classification of the individual assignment (100%).
