In the end of the course, students should:
1. Know the most important concepts of the Probability Theory, which are essential for the study of Statistical Inference and Econometrics.
2. Be able to apply the probability concepts, never forgetting their rigourous mathematical formularisation, even when intuitively understood.
3. Be able to do a report on data analysis (computing descriptive statistics and presenting graphical representations, together with the use of the software R)
The students should know the most important concepts of the Probability Theory, and apply these concepts with rigor and critical knowledge.
1. Descriptive Statistics
2. Probability.
3. Unidimensional and bidimensional random variables
4. Most important discrete and continuous distributions
Theoretical-Practical classes. All classes are in Portuguese.

Normal season of exams
Students can be evaluated by 2 tests OR only by Exam
Final classification for students evaluated by 2 tests is obtained by the formula:
40%*classification 1st Test+60%*classification 2nd Test
To be approved by tests, the final classification obtained by the previous formula must be >=9.5 and the classification of each test must be >=6.0
To be approved by exam, the final classification
obtained in the exam must be >=9.5
1st Test: About chapters 1 and 2 (Descriptive Statistics; Probability)
2nd Test: About chapters 3 and 4 (Random Variables and Probability Distributions)
Exam: About all chapters 1,2,3,4
Retake season of exams
For students that were not approved in the normal season or to improve the classification.
Final classification for students evaluated by 2 tests is obtained by the formula:
40%*classification 1st Test+60%*classification 2nd Test
To be approved by tests, the final classification obtained by the previous formula must be >=9.5 and the classification of each test must be >=6.0
