Objectives

The course aims to provide additional practical and applied knowledge in Finance, through the participation in seminars led by experts from corporate, academia and institutions. The seminar series will address different topics privileging the current challenges, the recent issues and the future perspectives in the field. Through the presentation of real-life cases by guest speakers, the students will develop the skills involved in characterizing complex problems in a multidisciplinary context, in evaluating the outcomes yielded and in communicating their analysis and conclusions.

Learning outcomes:

  • Use the knowledge acquired in the program to characterize complex problems, to evaluate the outputs yielded and to communicate the analysis and conclusions on the real-life cases presented in each seminar.
  • Analyse critically the current issues and challenges faced by the world of Finance.
  • Envision the solutions for the future, presented by key players in the markets, in this era of constant change.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Presentation and discussion of real-life cases. Seminars require the participation of students. Every session has presentation and debate.
The first session will be with the professor responsible for the course, that will clarify in detail how it works. The semester will include six additional sessions with invited speakers.
Assessment by group written essays.

Eligibility for exams

To obtain a passing grade according to the formula bellow.
The presence in the Seminars is mandatory.

The course includes seven sessions and the students can only miss one.

Calculation formula of final grade

- Participation in the Seminars: 10%; 
- Group Report about one Seminar: 70%;
- Video (5 min) with the oral presentation of the Seminar report: 20%

Important information:
A) In the report, the students must show critical thinking, capacity to integrate practical knowledge and professional practices with the learned subjects and theories. Innovative approaches will be appreciated;
B) The report and the video must be submitted in Moodle until 18/12/2020; 
C) The students must prepare each Seminar in advance, as the sessions will have a period for discussion.
D) The participation component includes: i) attendance and participation in the discussion period; ii) peer assessing (and feedback) of the videos of  three other gourps (allocated by the lecturer).
