The course is aimed to give students the basic knowledge and analytical skills on the energy sector and Energy Policy, as well as the close relationship between Energy and the Economy.
At the end of this course, students are expected to present analytical reports on macro and microeconomic aspects of the economy where energy is the main issue. They shall be able to make a correct interpretation of energy balances and to compare them. Finally6, they shall be able to recognize relationships and eventual contradictions between economic policy and energy/environmental policy.
1. Key concepts of Energy Economics. The energy value chain: coal, oil, natural gas, electricity.
2. The Oil industry: history and market structure.
3. Natural Gas industry: history and market structure.
4. Coal industry: history and market structure.
5. Electricity: renewable and non renewable energy sources. Market structure. The Iberian electricity market. Decarbonization : nuclear X renewables
6. Energy Balances. Structure, interpretation and use for economic policy purposes. Case studies.
Presentation of topics, discussion in class. Several case studies will be discussed.

75% of classes should be attended. Two tests: the students must have a minimum of 6.5/20.0 in each one. One written report on a selected theme (20%) and an oral presentation and discussion (20%)
FG= 30% classification in the first test+ 30% classification of the second test+ 20%classification of case presentation+ 20% classification of the written report.
