Objectives
To allow students to make use of the knowledge learned (in the first year of the Master in Management programme) in preparing their dissertation plan.
Learning outcomes and competences
At the final essay, the student is expected to:
- clearly identify the research question(s) and discuss the gap/opening question he wants to study in its master dissertation;
- fully perform a literature review and systematize the relevant literature in a main framework;
- justifiably identify the methodology suitable to analyze the problem in research (based in the relevant literature)
- plan the research work through a chronogram.

Calculation formula of final grade
Final Grade = 0,10*ResearchIdeaPresentation + 0,30*OralExamination + 0,60*FinalEssay - Penalizations
Components of the evaluation:
- ResearchIdeaPresentation - 10% of the final grade: Research Topic/Idea presentation (week 6). 5 minutes presentation.
- OralExamination - 30% of the final grade: Students’ oral examination of the dissertation project (week 13). 10 minutes presentation.
- FinalEssay - 60% of the final grade: Final essay delivery (Dissertation proposal) – Report (maximum 20 pages) containing information about the research topic, purpose and relevance of the study, the literature review, the main research question(s), the most suitable methodology for the study and a chronogram of the work (to deliver until the 15th of January, 2017)
- 1 page summary containing the research topic, purpose and relevance to deliver until the end of week 5. If the student does not send the summary until the date defined in the schedule, 1 point (out of 20) will be deducted from the final grade.
- First essay: Report (maximum 10 pages) containing information about the research topic (reformulated, if needed), purpose and relevance of the study, the key literature review and the main research question(s) to deliver until the end of week 10. If the student does not send the First Essay until the date defined in the schedule, 2 points (out of 20) will be subtracted from the final grade.
