Objectives

• Acquire practical and applied knowledge in International Business, through the participation of experts from
three areas: corporate, academia and institutions
• Supplement knowledge gathered in other subjects of the Masters, supporting the integration of such
knowledge through real cases: notably, of foreign multinationals operating in Portugal, of internationalized
Portuguese firms, and of the experiences of other economies

Learning outcomes and competences


Skills:
• Use the knowledge acquired to understand the internationalization processes of distinct firms
• Distinguish various internationalization strategies, and evaluate them, identifying the advantages and
drawbacks of each option
• Analyze critically internationalization cases
• Develop consulting capabilities in International Business, through analysis of real cases, and of different
methodologies

• Interacting with top representatives of companies and of international organizations

.• Internationalization of the Portuguese Economy and of Portuguese Firms:
• Cases of foreign-owned multinational subsidiaries operating in Portugal
• Cases of Portuguese firms that undertook processes of internationalization (exports; contractual forms;
foreign direct investment)
• Analysis of different functional areas that are crucial for a successful internationalization process
• Best practices in International Business and in Public Policies

Teaching methods and learning activities

.Presentation and discussion of real case studies.
Each seminar has theoretical and practical content and a specific theme.
Seminars demand participation of students. Every session has presentation and debate. Each session will
contrast theoretical references acquired in the Masters and the experiences shared by speakers.
The first class will be with the professor responsible for the module, that will clarify in detail how it works. The
semester will include several sessions with invited speakers, and sessions of presentation/discussion of the
students’ work.
If there will be time left after each seminar, that may be used to discuss students’ reports.

Eligibility for exams

.Presence is required for approval, according to the rules applicable at FEP (RAC). Students can miss 3 out of 14 sessions.

Calculation formula of final grade

.Evaluation:
Has two components:
1) Detailed report based on a Seminar. Rules are distributed in written form at the beginning of the module.
2) Synthetic report chosen randomly by the professor among the synthetic reports done at the end of each seminar

Fincal classification: 80% component (a) + 20% component (b)
