Objectives

Allow the student to apply knowledge of research methodology and data processing, previously acquired in a particular scientific field which should be deepened, resulting in the development of the project leading to the development of the dissertation.

Learning outcomes and competences

 

At the end of the process (Final Report) it is expected that the student has:

 

• identified clearly the research question and discuss the gap he want to fill / contribution within the scientific literature of the area;

 

• conducted an adequate and complete literature review in the relevant research area;

• identified and justified, according to the existing literature and consistent with the research question, the methodology to adopt (research strategy to follow, including techniques for the collection and analysis of data to be used).

3. The production of scientific knowledge and the research process: the general logic and steps of the research process.

4. The research process and data collection techniques: approach to the questionnaire survey and interview.

5. The genesis, analysis, planning and evaluation of research ideas.

6. The Statistical Process in Quantitative Research. Data types; Statistics and Data Analysis; Data collection. The Sampling Process. Examples. SPSS: introduction and initial coding of the data.

7. Initial analysis of the data; statistical inference: parametric and nonparametric hypothesis testing

8. Multivariate Data Analysis; Regression.

Teaching methods and learning activities

 

Classes are theoretical and practical, focusing on formal aspects of scientific research (e.g., how to design a research project, key issues related to developing a good thesis, a good paper, a good presentation in a seminar or conference) and a brief introduction to the techniques of collecting and analyzing data.

Presentation and discussion of Dissertation projects / Work Project / Internship produced by the students in collaboration with a faculty supervisor and teachers of the curricular unit.

Calculation formula of final grade

The evaluation is continuous and includes: '

- 1 mini-test (10%)

- 2 Reports (Report 1-25%; Report 2 (final) - 50%)

- Presentation / Defense of Final Report (15%)

- If the student does not present the research idea or fails the intermediate presentation, 1 point (out of 20) will be deducted from the final grade.

- If the student fails any of the above mentioned assignments with classification, he/she will have a classification of zero points (out of 20) in the corresponding assessment. A minimum score of 10 in the Report 2 (Dissertation Proposal) im mandatory for approval.

- There is no possibility of approval through final exam.
