In this course students should acquire knowledge of the main determinants of the flows and patterns of International Trade as well as the effects that trade policies have on them. Additionally should understand the main instruments of trade policies and their effects. Finally will be reviewed policies and measures to stimulate exports.
Students must acquire knowledge to anticipate the mark eteffects and economic efficiency resulting from trade policy measures. They are also expected to develop skills to support the decision on international trade by companies.

1. World trade: specialization patterns, recent trends and foresight.
2. The International Economic Order and International Organizations of Commerce. The Legal Framework of World Trade: The GATT and the World Trade Organization
3. Reading and interpreting international trade statistics: trade indexes. 4. International trade theories
5. Trade and growth, Technology transfers, Trade and wage inequalities
6. Foreign Trade Policy - tariff and non-tariff restrictions to trade and its economic effects.
7. Free Trade versus Protectionism - Arguments.
8. Regionalism and multilateralism: Key regional trade blocs.
9. Firms and trade. Mechanisms to support the international trade activity.
Lectures with inclusion of material for discussion and reflection. Research work in groups and individually. Oral presentations by students in the classroom. Case studies.

The assessment of this course consists of the following components: (a) Written tests which corresponds to 70% of the final grade (minimum 7.5 points), (b) A joint work of research, accounting for 30% of the final grade, includind oral presentation.
Calculation of final grade: 40% * 1st test + 30% * 2nd test + 30% * research joint work.
Students who are exempt from class attendance are required to present the research joint work in the classroom.
Only the component test is open to improvement that occurs at the time of repeat examinations.
No student may obtain approval without various components of the evaluation process.
