Objectives

This unit is designed to provide students with an opportunity to explore the behavioural aspects of organizational life and their implications for managing people. The analysis will highlight the differences between mainstream and critical approaches to key concepts and issues of managing self, managing other people, and managing at organizational level.

Learning outcomes and competences

The unit will provide a framework for the development of self-awareness, awareness of self in relation to others and interpersonal and social processes as they impact on personal and organizational effectiveness. The unit will enable participants to develop a conceptual understanding that is critical rather than mainstream and has practical relevance for managing people in organizations.

Designation Weight (%)
Teste 70,00
Trabalho de campo 30,00
Total: 100,00

Eligibility for exams

A student cannot miss more than 25% of the classes.

Calculation formula of final grade

DISTRIBUTED ASSESSMENT: Test 1 (35%) + Test 2 (35%) + Group assignment (30%)

(alternatively, by final exam)

Examinations or Special Assignments

Test 1 (mid term) will be on points 1, 2, 3 and 4 of syllabus.
Test 2 (end of term, before the Christmas vacation) will be on points 5, 6 and 7 of syllabus.
There is a minimum mark of 7/20 in both tests. A mark below in any of these implies a fail and having to take the final exam at época de recurso, regardless of the average mark resulting.

Group assignment (3-4 students per group) consists of a real case analysis. The mark for this will result from the report (60%) and presentation (40%), both of which are due in January.

A student will be formally linked with the distributed assessment mode by taking and handing out test 2.

The final exam at época normal can only be taken by those who are not formally linked with the distributed assessment mode.

Classification improvement

By final exam only (at época de recurso)
