Objectives

The student should be able to use the interest rate as the  scale that allows the comparison of scarce resources available at different periods of time and with different levels of risk.

Learning outcomes and competences

The student will be able to evaluate a simple project of investment and to dentify the financial instruments that are suitable for its funding.

1. The interest rate, the discount and capitalization. Present value, future value, internal rate of return. Lace. Bank deposits, repayment of loans and bonds. Applications algebraic and spreadsheet. 2. The risk modeling and risk diversification: Insurance, Asset Portfolios. Shares, exchange contracts (swaps). Applications algebraic and spreadsheet.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical and practical classes where the concepts related to the interest rate and practical examples are presented. The assessment is final exam, with a short essay and two individual tests that use numerical problems an where it is evaluated the ability of the student to apply the theoretical concepts.

Eligibility for exams

The student must be present in at least 75% of classes in order to be approved in evaluating distributedThe tests will be WITHOUT CONSULTATION. The shortessay will be done by mid-October.

Calculation formula of final grade

Note = (0.45 test score 1 + 0.45test score 2 + 0.1 essay note). Failure to a test means having zero values as a note of that test.

Examinations or Special Assignments

To improve the grade of the first test the student can take the exam counting the best note. Also, once approved, can improve classification in one of the following tests (see the department as it is necessary to register and pay a sum).
