Objectives
The course is aimed to give students the basic knowledge and analytical skills on the energy sector.
Methodologies used at micro and macro level for energy analysis are also presented and worked by students.
Program
1. Introduction: Geopolitics and the social dimension of energy.
2. The energy value chain: coal, oil, natural gas, electricity.
3. The global energy industry: companies and governments; markets and politics. Case studies.
4. Energy resource nationalism and market power. Case studies.
5. Key concepts of Energy Economics and energy accountancy.
6. Energy Balances. Structure, interpretation and use for economic policy purposes. Case studies.
7. Energy indicators: calculation, interpretation and international comparision. Case studies.
Teaching methods and learning activities
Presentation of topics, discussion in class.
Several case studies will be discussed.

Eligibility for exams
75% of classes should be attended.
Two tests: the students must have a minimum of 7.5/20.0 in each one.
Calculation formula of final grade
FG= 5% Assiduity+35% classification in the first test+ 35% classification of the second test+ 25%classification of case presentation.
