Objectives
1. To take advantage of the knowledge accumulated at Porto Faculty of Economics concerning the previous course on Growth and Development economics
2. To reinforce the audience of the course within students interested in NGO work and practice, mainly in countries speaking the Portuguese language
3. To integrate micro and macroeconomic analysis in approaching the low income countries and reinforcing the field of international economics in the graduation in Economics
4. To give theoretical arguments in order to achieve a global understanding of globalisation issues, discussing critically the main controversal issues
Program
1. Introduction to the theme and the debate about globalisation;
2. Empirical evidence on underdevelopment and structural change of the low income countries structural change
3. Underdevelopment and industrialisation
4. Financing the erradication of underdevelopment and governance
5. Final synthesis - to go beyond the Washington consensus - how to succeed that the new development paradigms could be feasible and to build a consequent new international economic order
